Typically I would be in bed at this time. It's best for everyone involved if I'm in bed by 9:30pm and get my full 8 hours of sleep. However, tomorrow we are leaving for the Shack. We will be gone for less than 48 hours, but when you have 2 kids 2 and under, it doesn't matter if you're leaving for 1 night or 100 nights, you need all the same stuff. I'm up because when I became a mom, I found out why my mom was always up late and awake early (yet somehow still the last one out the door) before a family trip. When I became I mom, I realized how it was possible for my mom to forget her own clothes for an out of town wedding 2 hours away. When I became a mom, I became aware of how hard making memories can be. There. I said it. Making memories as a mom can be hard. Exhausting. Parents can I get an amen? Late night packing, triple checking everyone has a least 2 extra sets of clothes, enough diapers, formula, something to keep bottles warm, food, sunscreen, beach tent, toys, pacifier, blankets/"lovies," and a million other things. Even before day trips to the beach, I ask myself, "Is this really worth it?" It is, (almost) every single time. When I became a mom, I got to see life through a 2-year-old and 10-month-old. Endless hours playing in the sand and a bucket of water, frog hunting, crayfish catching (Nick named his first one Pinch), bonfire sitting, "little kitchens," (Nick and Jade in a camper is the most adorable and sleepless thing ever) creation exploring, off roading, dirt bike stunt shows, tractor riding, memory making. When I became a mom I learned making memories can be hard, but I also learned you won't see raw joy and genuine curiosity about God's creation any better way. Mom, thank you. For the countless hours you put into getting ready to make memories. I never know it would be this hard or this rewarding. I'm so thankful for all the experiences we had as a family growing up and I'm excited for my kids to experience some of the same childhood magic you created for me.
